What We Do
-
New Beginnings for Refugees empowers refugees as they put down roots in the Wausau area.
We gather donations and provide household goods for each family when they first arrive, and a personal needs pantry to supplement their first two years.
We teach English and cultural classes to adult refugees to prepare them for employment and community involvement. During class, we also provide childcare to help prepare their children to flourish in school.
Strategic Supports
Volunteer Mobilization
Local volunteers are needed to welcome and engage our new neighbors in a variety of roles, including tutoring English, childcare during English classes, stocking and staffing our personal needs pantry, and befriending new families in your neighborhoods, schools, and community groups.
Education & Awareness
Our volunteer leaders are happy to present to community groups interested in learning about refugees, the geopolitical circumstances from which they come, and how your group can make a big difference by giving and serving.
Fundraising & Material Assistance
We rely on generous financial partners in the community to sustain ongoing and future services. We also seek material donations for household supplies, as well as paper products, toiletries, and cleaning supplies.
